Yes. 2 of our 3 best hires in the last 18 months were extremely awkward in interviews, so much so that we had to carefully edit out negative feedback that obviously derived from the candidate's discomfort in the interview.

My thesis is that practically all software developers are bad interviewers. I'm not suggesting that there are a couple bad apples that turn into tyrants during interviewers, but rather that the interview process is a vector that pushes software developers into a subtly bad place, in a Stanley Milgram sort of way.
