Cisco, Google, SAP discussing BlackBerry bids (reuters.com)

None of the stories about potential bidders for Blackberry mention the Investment Canada Act. Essentially, because of its size, any foreign bid for Blackberry would have to be approved by the Canadian cabinet. The Act has only been used twice, but it's a possibility.

I'd be surprised if Google is doing this for anything, but the patents.


I really, really hope Google buys the elliptic curve cryptography patents from Blackberry, and makes them public domain. ECC is the future of cryptography on the web, and we need them to be public domain. We may be able to work around them, but it's better to be safe than sorry.


Google already bought Motorola which has plenty of patents.Do they really need more?


When you mention patents in the USA, there cannot be enough.
