Is the cost of living in Rochester that high, or was the author living somewhere else at this time?

400/week after taxes is something like 1200/mo.

    1200
    -500 (rent, 2 roommates)
    -200 (food/beer)
    -100 (car)
    -350 (min student loan payment)

50 left over.
