Not wanting to be entirely silly, should ECC simply be folded into one of these specs as a "must have" so we can stop being reminded to run NAS systems with ECC memory?
As long as Intel can price partition their numerous processor models based upon the presence, or deactivation, of ECC, you won't see your ask happen. While they can continue to squeeze profit out of enabling ECC only for more expensive "models" they will be sure to have their rep. on the standards committee prevent any such harm to their bottom line from occurring.
I would hope that some subtle shift in markets here, now that both ARM and AMD are competitive with Intel for a significant market in desktop, DC and device niches might make Intel change their mind.
