I love this creator’s projects and this one is especially beautiful. The proportions and the brass colors really give this thing a wonderful aesthetic. Do yourself a favor and subscribe to the guy, he really has the hacker mindset in my opinion.
I like the project, but, I have to say that the budget specified by the author (30$) is unrealistic: only for the electronic board and microphone capsule the expense is 60+E, I just calculate it with a major electronic supplier I'm regular customer. Then you have to spend roughly
the same in brass, associated hardware, etc and around 20-30E for the USB interface. So we are talking about 150+E ( shipment costs excluded ) and saying that you don't need tools, consumables, etc
Question for the electrical/audio engineers in the crowd: could I get similar results by simply yanking the capsule out of my Yeti and soldering in the capsule shown in the video?
No, because the enclosure has a significant impact on the acoustics and is designed for the capsule. It's the same as swapping the driver out in a loudspeaker. You might get lucky, but probably not.
