Can we talk about the premature SSD aging and how it will conveniently ensure you will have to throw away your laptop when it goes?


Exactly. Currently at 7% SSD wear after 2 months of normal frontend work (16gb RAM, and 1TB SSD).


I read in a german computer magazine that those SSD wear values on the M1 are only caused by faulty tools not adjusted for the new SSDs, and the readings are plain wrong. Has this been debunked in the meantime, i.e. do the tools authors have verified their sensor readings are correct?


As of now the picture is not 100% clear, but so far reports of everybody looking into the issue seems to indicate that data is indeed being written (either cause of a bug, or aggressive swap), and it's not a tooling misreporting issue.


How hard is it to replace the SSD?


It's irreplaceable
