That is exactly what rankine is but it is not really widely used.

I think was the point of his comment. That the number is so big the unit doesn't matter.


Also, I think it relates to the point people arguing for Fahrenheit make that 0C and 100C aren't as relatable since they're related to boiling and freezing points of water compared to 0F and 100F which would be more "human" temperatures. So the joke is that this is one case where it doesn't matter.
