They are moving that thread to a new subreddit, specifically because it inaccurately (imprecisely?) reflects Scott and his audience.


For something inaccurate, why would it be the pinned thread with nearly all the activity?

Edit: Doing a search for the title shows that it's been the main tradition for ~ 2 years. So that line of reasoning seems a little suspect.


It wasn't always like this. There has been a steady rightwards drift these past years and now it has become much further to the right than both Scott and the majority of the blog's audience.


It was a containment thread to keep certain discussions from taking over the rest of the board. It was pinned so it would be more effective at doing that. However, it then stole most of the board's activity and/or attracted its own set of users.


Does it help to think of it as `r/somefansofslatestarcodex` instead of as a subreddit run by the blog's author?


He's one of the top mods, no? At least from glancing at the list.


He is a mod, but not particularly involved in the subreddit.
