I've prob been on the other side of that argument. I usually advocate for allowing developers to pick their laptops rather than coming up with a one size fits all solution.

This started when my company started buying Skylake HPs for all new hires because they were "cheaper". They were only cheaper because they were comparing them to current gen MBPs. As a result we were stuck with TN panels and 8 gbs of ram. I would rather have a $400 chromebook with an IPS display at that point, easily 1/2 to 1/3 of the price.
