My CS education turned out to be “coding in a few fundamental domains” and I was very happy with it. We implemented some fundamental algorithms and components across operating systems, networks, distributed consensus, compilers/interpreters, visualization, sensing and perception, databases, machine learning, etc.

You were free to construct a degree out of proofs rather than source code if you wanted, but those of us who desired a more practical education could fill our days with systems programming.
