Counteracting a me me me society with authoritarian mandates forcing people to give to the poor cannot be morally justified in my opinion.
The just use of the law is to punish those who violate the rights of others, not those who don't meet our personal moral standards on acting altruistically. The latter is treading on theocratic ideology.
