If the Secretary of the Treasury designates China as a currency manipulator, your new iPhone will wind up costing you $2000. What madness.

Donald Trump implored his fans to boycott Apple's products in February [1].

Good. Americans should bear the true cost of offshore-built devices.

If it really becomes a big deal, Apple can move the factory back state-side. They are getting to the point where Chinese labor is getting expensive enough that they are automating manufacturing and replacing people with robots over there anyway.

Human labor is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Actually, i would like to know what this "currency manipulator " labeling really means ? Will goods from china be taxed more ? if so, how much more ?

45% is the number he's talked about in the past.

It will end up being made in the US though.

Not US, Vietnam.

Foxconn has manufacturing plant in Vietnam. Vietnam is cheaper than China.

I spoke with a business owner during a real "Going Out Of Business Sale". They had a unfinished furniture store (buy a wood table that hasn't been finished, and finish it yourself etc). They had been making everything in Canada (where the store was located) using Canadian labour and paying Canadian wages. He said he could no longer compete with the companies that would send raw wood to Vietnam, have citizens build the products for $0.17/hour and ship it back. He also didn't want to go through the incredible logistics of all that, so he just closed down his business.
