As of the FB app on my iPhone, when I wanted to connect it with my phones data (to get extra phone numbers of my friends, and see their profile pics), I was asked to agree that the app can upload the data to FB and let them use it whatever way they want to. (Read: all the phone numbers in my phone, not in the FB app.) That really blew my mind. I didn't agree, but if 500 people have your phone number in their phones, the chance that none of them agrees is zero.
This is the only way the number could've slipped into Facebook servers. Still, sending fake friend request SMSes to the user when they don't even have an fb account is totally unethical.
notifo is a notification service that you can link your account to.
showdead gives you the option to see posts of hellbanned users (which are usually invisible).
noprocrast and the following two are a neat feature to lock yourself out of hn after maxvisit minutes for minaway minutes (to stop procrastination, as the name says).
noprocrast works very well. As someone how has a HN 'problem' I would not be able to come here if it was not for noprocrast.
noprocrast must have been a technical feat. It will enforce the limit even if you are logged out and on an entire different network and switch browsers. I have not investigated how it works (I do not want to know how to avoid it) but it works better than cookies would.
It would be even cooler if I could tell it to ignore replies to relatively recent comments (say, less than 24 hours old). I don't want to get flooded with notifications about threads that I still have open in a tab somewhere.
I was looking in the PR book you suggested and also in many others I have found. Let me be straight, I find all of them dry, boring and useless.
I had little idea about PR, and I still have little, but I start to realize it is a different animal from what a startup would need. It feels like something mysterious and don't believe in mystery.
You did actually help me to the conclusion, that I will just skip learning PR now and focus on marketing, like rmATinnovafy said. I did need your input, thank you.
