TSA has been an elaborate ruse to create a recurring revenue service program called “clear” and tsa-pre. Of course they are also able to monetize the ruse itself.

Musk’s schtick lately has always been to find a challenging problem, point everyone to it and say “ I will solve it by September “, have the stock shoot up and make money. His first dis that with self driving, then twitter, then xAi, and now robots and data center in space. These last two will last him a decade as these are both challenging problems to solve over night.

I thought xAi previously merged with twitter, so all of this is now rolled into SpaceX? Atleast the investors in xAi and the original financiers in twitter get a breather. SpaceX is the new bandaid for this hot mess. Let’s see if this ends up rotting SpaceX or if it gets healed.

Is this the equivalent of cigarette companies putting “smoking kills” on their packaging?

There really are no other use cases for generative AI than software flows. The irony of all this is software engineers automated their own workflows and made themselves replaceable. One think I am convinced of is that software engineering salaries will fall and we have seen the peak salaries for this industry, they will only fall going forward. Sure there will be a few key senior folks that continue to make a lot, but the software salaries itself will go through a k split just like out economy.

"Software Engineers" isn't a single group, here. Some software engineers (making millions of dollars at top AI companies) are automating other software engineers' workflows and making those software engineers replaceable. The people who are going to be mostly negatively affected by these changes are not the people setting out to build them.

Do you really think we should be like ancient egyptian scribes and gatekeep the knowledge and skills purely for our sake?

I don't think there has been other field that is this open with trade secrets. I know a dentist who openly claims they should be paid for training dental interns (idk what the US terminology is) despite them being productive, simply because they will earn a lot of money in the future. I did not want and do not want software engineering to become that.

Looks like they are not selling the larger vehicles at all, so why not kill the truck too? It’s god awful and a flop. Ego? Or thy want to try to revive it?

What they are really signaling though is with EVs they are not able to differentiate between the higher and lower cost models enough to show value to the higher end models. This is a huge failure IMO. Model S was the OG car that really was looked up to when it launched. It did have them luxury image, by not matching the build and interior of the car to the image Tesla really dropped the ball. Now the S is seen as inferior to the other luxury cars in that price range and so it’s becoming tough for Tesla to differentiate between the 3 and S.

This actually brings up the larger question, does musk care about cars at all at this point? Or does he just want to move on to robots? Feels like his heart is not on the cars.

This was a terrible idea to begin with and am glad it’s discontinued. Hope they delete the biometric data securely.

I do not think they store any biometric data, they just compute a key out of the image. So, those keys are useless. Very difficult to create a fake living hand with all the living blood vessels with just a key.

The biggest strength for this guy is the tech billionaires and the tech industry and they are all on their knees for whatever reason. They need to speak up and disconnect with him. It’s easy to do but they don’t have a spine.

No amount of failed promises, missed deadlines or just plain lies is going to dampen the stock, it’s just the way it is with this. Staying away is the best one can do.

As they should. It’s an incredible opportunity to develop technology natively and by extension wealth. The US has proven in this one year that it’s not to be trusted let alone relied upon. Unfortunately the tide once set in motion cannot be u done and the damage done in this one year is irreparable, may be now the tech billionaires will speak up and to use a phrase from Carney - take the sign down from their windows
