The issue isn't the lack of a formatter, the issue is that some things should be left to preference rather than strictly enforced.

By removing the arbitrary preferences from code formatting, one can focus on the substance of the code itself, and not its accidental decoration; in the case of generated code, for example, this can be quite beneficial.
