Andrei Zmievski has been giving this presentation on what happened to Unicode in PHP. A huge amount of work went into making it happen but it eventually could not continue due to several reasons, including design decisions, lack of contributors & interest in the project.

I work for a company that does a large volume of business with small, independent trucking companies. This requires sending load confirmation and bill of lading documents that they must have with them in the truck.

Many of these barely have a working fax machine, much less email. We email documents directly whenever we can, and have abstracted faxing away using a print-to-fax server, and incoming faxes to emails. Things have changed quite a bit in the past few years; I would estimate we have close to 50% email adoption among independent truckers. Even still, our systems send hundreds of faxes a day at peak time.

What many people seem to be missing or ignoring is that he is primarily talking about Flash content on websites.

Jobs said all standards pertaining to the web should be open, not all software. He admits that they have proprietary systems for native apps.

Apple believes that browsing the web should not require a proprietary plugin. I don't see any hypocrisy in that.

yes, it does have this. 'File > Send SSH Command' brings up a dialog where you can type any SSH command, but also has a pulldown where you can select 'Zip Selection' or 'Unzip Selection'

excellent. I was just wondering if they were going to add a 'Home Server' channel or something similar.
