> You Need a PC for PC Games:

Sure, you could use a "PC" (like the Apple II used for the first screenshots) ... if you don't have access to a PLATO system!

> Brodie Lockard, who discovered the tile-matching game as he dealt with recovery from an injury that had left him paralyzed, porting it to the PLATO system.

Is it outrageous because "performant" is kind of a vague term. Does it mean... Fast? GPU-friendly? Scalable? Energy-efficient? Reliable? User-friendly? Maintainable? For what kind of applications?

Modern Fortran has a lot to offer for scientific and numeric computation - easier to learn than C++, and easier to optimize in many cases. Scales from small systems to supercomputers, and there is even CUDA Fortran.

Nobody uses "performant" to refer to any of those. It usually means either high throughput, or some aggregate of high throughput + low latency + low memory usage.

They have learnt... very slightly more than nothing from CUDA.

"Well, some guy in marketing figured that we could make more money by charging more money, especially for things that we didn't previously charge money for. This was validated by ChatGPT as the kind of brilliant insight that qualifies someone for an MBA. You may take some solace in the fact that we somehow managed to preserve a free version for broke idiots who use Windows."

Why is Linux not supported in the BASIC tier?
seems about right

Well, my Ive-cursed 2016 MacBook Pro had 4 (!) ThunderBolt/USB-C ports, which I kind of miss (though you had to use one of them for charging, you could also charge from either side). It was both thinner and lighter than recent 16" MacBook Pro models (but with ~5 hour battery life.)

It also had a semi-useful touchbar, no actual physical ESC key, a terrible "butterfly" keyboard that was replaced twice, and a large trackpad that had terrible palm rejection until they eventually fixed it.

So mostly not great, but I miss the form factor and those 4 TB/USB-C ports. I dream about having more of them.

The Magic Trackpad is fine and works fine both wired and wireless.

I dislike loud cars and motorcycles, but ALPR should be limited severely. Driving a car shouldn't automatically subject you to dragnet surveillance.

Meanwhile emergency vehicle sirens are loud, obnoxious, and (in many cities) constant, with minimal benefit:

> The use of emergency vehicles’ lights and siren does not save clinically significant amounts of time, and it is associated with an increase in ambulance crashes.

Ripping those tiny GameCube discs is interesting!

Unless they can get admitted to a private university and a professional school.
