I've been hosting on Webfaction for some years now and it has been great.

http://gsick.com

It's a complete media sharing platform I made. Similar to Reddit but with a much faster way to view the content.

It ran very slowly for me, and hat a lot less info. Scrolling was very slow.

This is an online code editor I made but im not improving it any further until it shows some interest.

Some features:

work directly from your server through FTP code autocompletion split windows infinitely save sessions that remember your files and layout built in file explorer with Unix-y commands tools to aid on web development vim and emacs keyboard mode very customizable appearance

Looks interesting. Had to work out that I could right-click, and CTRL+Space opened the menu. Buttons for those with the keyboard shortcuts / instructions in tooltips would have been helpful.

They should make the dock act exactly like Windows 7, put it in the bottom, remove the top panel.

I always customize my Win installs by moving dock to the left, same as Ubuntu. It makes sense on laptop with limited vertical space

I do the same on Windows 7 ;) I am wondering if it would be possible to get rid of the top panel altogether and put the information in the vertically aligned left panel, just like I have it on Win7. For maximized windows it would not gain anything, but for 2 side-by-side terminals it makes a (small) change.

I've lost several domains that simply got deleted from my account. Every time I tried contacting them about the subject they refused to answer.

This is a neat idea, getting real time data from a busy place like Twitter is something that rivals current search engines when it comes to get the latest news.

open a shell and type 'import antigravity'

The problem with Windows 8 is the fact that it has two different desktops experiences. I quickly realized I felt much more comfortable using my keyboard and mouse on the desktop mode. I tried to ignore metro mode and use only the desktop but the whole metro thing is so ingrained with it's sensible corners and start menu. After some time of tweaking I could disable most of the things and ended up with something resembling a crippled Windows 7 at best.

They really had something going on with Windows 7 and they blew it. Maybe metro is ok for light usage like checking emails, browsing, multimedia, which is certainly what a lot of people do, but for a developer like me it just feels handicapped.

This is what Microsoft should do, offer different versions of Windows, one with metro the other with the desktop. I really don't think they are that stupid to just mess with the momentum Windows 7 had.

If they don't then they are finished in the desktop front, at least for people who make things with their OS and not just consume media.
