the thing could barely make full grammatical sentences, it's funny to see that even then they were overclaiming the fuck out of their myself

It was a 1.5B parameter model. It was still impressive for 2019, but yeah, it was nothing to worry about.

imho it was more reasonable back then to claim "agi soon" -- back when nobody really knew how it scales

They weren't claiming it was dangerous because "AGI soon", that didn't come until later.

OpenAI were claiming GPT-2 was too dangerous because it could be used to flood the internet with fake content (mostly SEO spam).

And they were somewhat right. GPT-2 was very hard to prompt, but with a bit of effort it could spit out endless pages that were good enough to fool a search engine, and even a human at a first glance (you were often several paragraphs in before you realised it was complete nonsense.

gaming too I guess still

This won’t last for long too. Valve with SteamDeck and apparent future release of SteamMachine/SteamOS is preparing users for Linux gaming

My consoles (Xbox and switch) are terrible at the basic thing like updates. My steam deck on the other hand does update all the time but I never notice and haven't ever picked it up off the dock and been stopped from playing a game because it needed to update something. I think they'll start eating everones lunch if they keep making it easier to use and if their 2026 products are good.

either that or AAA games mostly becoming streamed from Clouds like Nvidia now

Google tried that and there's still some blood on the wall

is there any hope for linux native anticheat? I always felt like this was what was holding it back

That’s the question, yes.

The main issue is an ability to rebuild literally any part of the system from sources. A few changes here and there allow cheaters to bypass anticheat protection in a significant amount of ways

Trying to build things in a way that they have to be resistant to missile and drone stand is not a very reasonable scaling constraint. That's why we need non stupid leaders who don't start pointless wars

hitting the electrical grid is a war crime, not so much an AWS server farm. optics / progressive escalation does matter

it's like a faster than light spaceship company using horses. There's been infinite solutions to do this better even CPU only for years lol.

it's funny because domesticated cats have much more developed frontal cortexes than their ancestors & it would be one of the things that feral cats lose to genetic drift (meaning, no conservation pressure in the wild). whatever boring stuff we have them do is apparently extremely mentally taxing compared to the wild.

Social interaction may take more mental capacity than hunting and surviving?

they also need to understand human behavior a little bit I guess, & that's pretty complicated (so not just social, social of humans specifically)

more developed frontal cortexes

And smaller brains

Aren’t mutually exclusive

Yeah it probably shrank as it developed

Absolutely not, the former relies on controversial ideas to qualify as legal.

Stealing the content from the whole planet & actively reducing the incentive to visit the sites without financial restitution is pretty bad.

but doesn't it break the assumption that it should ideally be able to reproduce your original results

IMO it would be hard to reproduce the results using autoresearch setup.

To get CLIP to work properly we typically need large batch sizes. So the experiments in the original paper were quite heavy, and ran parallel across 8 GPUs.

just "eat the food you cooked" would be fine. drink your own champagne sounds like such corporate group think bullshit I'd be tempted to change workplace on the spot

tanks must represent like 0.001% of fuel consumption lol Road uses like cars, trucks and buses is 47% of all oil, and clearly an enormous fraction of that can be converted to use electricity instead
