I was fond of compose-navigation-reimagined library back then when I was learning compose and had many issues with official navigation library. but navigation-reimagined was last updated 2 years back. I had forked it recently and replaced deprecated apis with newer apis, updated compose library suite. Also did some internal rework to improve animations. Stars are appreciated!
Hi, maker of Rose Player here. I was growing tired of VLC and KM Player (it got infested with ads recently). My problem with VLC was the lacking of thumbnail preview. and their fix step seek, the after-seek effect felt laggy for some videos, and i generally did not like the clutter (albeit bearable for a free software).
KM Player was a very good player for me, it was fast and repeated seek felt better, but after the original author sold it, it was infested with ads. KM Player did not have the thumbnail preview as well.
Then I found MPC-HC. it's under developed and archived in 2017, but man it was so insanely well engineered, saying this as a marketshare competitor does not make me ashamed. It did right most things, but I did not like the UX, I had to hold down arrow button significant amount of time for repeated seeking. MPC has thumbnail preview, but I did not like how they did it, it has a weird debounce that makes me pull my hair when i do hovering.
I then decided to make Rose Player. I was hesitant whether I should make it cross-platform, but I thought I should focus on solving the pain points first, all the problems I faced with former video players. I made it with C++, with WinUI 3. I am proud to say Rose Player has a very refreshing UX, no-lag seeking and shows instant thumbnail preview. Its light, weighs under 3mb. VLC, KMP were born in an era when doing video playback right was a challenge. Users generally came second. Popular user demands remains ignored till to-date.
And I was thinking to myself: It should not be too hard to make a video player that does the foundations right: like Timeline previews. Consistent frame updates with seeking/dragging. Less buttons in the interface.
I noted them down what I miss dearly, and made a video player that does atleast the basic things right. I named it after Rose, my favorite flower.
I have encountered many video players in my life - be it youtube, vimeo and sites that I will not mention here (chuckles).
All of them sucked in different ways. Some of them had no timeline thumbnail scrubbing, some of them had control buttons that blocks your view. some have timeline scrubbing but your mouse needs to be close to the slider otherwise the timeline preview will disappear.
All of these comes as minor annoyances but they play a crucial role on your users if they will come back to your site or not.
Being fed up, I decided to make a video player that will solve most of these problem and put the user first and rest second. That is the inspiration behind Roseplayer.
Just do `npm install roseplayer` and users will keep coming back to your site :)
