I think that attitude has downstream effects that are spiritually unhealthy. You should feel off-put by the idea of mentally sating your human brain with a soulless, algorithmically optimized imitation of art. We evolved with art as a species. I don't think anyone should be trying to "logic" their way into thinking humans are optional in art, even if it's something you're passively consuming.

If your brain can't tell the difference, then...what's the difference? In other words I can like human made art but it doesn't mean I won't sometimes want to see other imitations of it, especially if they're interesting.

That seems more like it should be called an "alumni fork"

"Community" makes more sense for people who aren't necessarily affiliated with the official project but were in the community that spawned around it.

I've never seen the term "alumni fork" used.

That pretend demo that's running commands near the top of the page is pretty annoying, it resizes itself as the text changes so even when I'm scrolled to the bottom of the page, everything keeps jumping up and down as the height of that element endlessly changes

Came here looking for someone mentioning this very issue. Did they not even view the model's output once? So strange.

Is that information available to websites? I figured they were doing some kind of novel hackery to self-detect extensions based on behaviour that would only happen if X extension was installed.

But that would be a lot of work for 6,300 extensions. Unless someone offers that as a service?

I downloaded it, tried opening one of my Java/Springboot projects. When I opened a Java file it had no text highlighting but offered to install a Java extension. Clicking it just made the prompt disappear and seemingly did nothing.

I found the Extensions screen, searched "Java" and tried installing the most popular extension. Clicking "Install" makes the button gray out for a second but does nothing before the button becomes clickable again. Not sure how to proceed from here. (On a work-managed MacBook)

From other comments in the thread, login is no longer required so you should be able to just not login on your work machine

Considering it came out in 2020 - a few years before the LLM hype train left the station, and when I started using it there was no AI integration, this doesn't seem accurate.

I liked using it because of the text input.

Thanks for the correction, I’ve only had it on my radar since they became the AI Terminal.

I originally got into Warp because they made a terminal where my normal text input keyboard shortcuts work.

As they've been scrambling to find a way to monetize and riding the AI train, it feels more bloated than ever and the constant pushing for me to use "agents" and whatnot really put my off using it. Plus with all the privacy concerns I can't with good conscience use it on my work machine.

So yes, I'd like a non-tracking, no-AI version of Warp too.
