For the millionth time: the number of bots tweeting about something doesn't imply a lot of people are actually seeing the tweets.

Also, afaik all the botometers are crap, so studies based on them are also crap.

The bot detectors are not very sophisticated, and they definitely have categorised several individuals whom I know to be real humans as 'bots,' apparently based on their political persuasion. It is ironic that human beings can fail a Turing test carried out by scripts, and disturbing that those peoples voices should be silenced based on such shallow criteria.

You should get more information than just from mainstream media.

Otoh the real issue probably is that information does not even matter, only group affiliation does. You'll just believe what confirms your world view and filter out the rest, and so does everybody else.

"attempt to install a different regime"

How can anybody believe such nonsense? Sorry, but simply taking over the capitol doesn't automatically make you the ruler of a new regime. It's not a video game were you get made king when you conquer the target zone.

> How can anybody believe such nonsense?

Because the intelligentsia aligned with the “retain power for Trump at all costs” faction represetned in the insurrection announced various mechanisms by which that ccould be done (which may be Constitutionally dubious, but that’s irrelevant here), because the President openly endorsed those theories, and because the actions the members of the mob openly stated they wanted to take were consistent with enabling those routes to be taken by removing actors who were impeding them, notably the VP.

To believe it was an attempt doesn't mean that you must believe it was likely to succeed, only that there is sufficient reason to believe that that's what the actors involved wanted to have happen. And there's plenty of reason to believe that they did want to impose a different leadership than the actual election winner, and that they had specific reason to believe that attacking the capitol when they did would present a means to achieve that objective.

> Sorry, but simply taking over the capitol doesn’t automatically make you the ruler of a new regime.

Nor was that the plan, but the escape of the VP and members caused the plan to fail.

It's not the protesters that made it a coup, it's the fact the security forces of the country allowed it to happen.

Angry protesters are a dime a dozen, it's the letting them into the main government building that makes it a coup.

Are there good politically neutral alternatives to Stripe and Twilio? Asking for a friend.

How do you measure neutrality?

Do you really not know what GP is referring to?

Regardless of your political leanings, cancellation is an action, not a neutral position.

Kind of ironic when the party in question is trying to cancel one of the laws that allows providers to be neutral in the first place

You can be against both things at the same time (cancelling said party and said party's plans against neutrality).

Authorize.net and Telnyx (cheaper too)

Thanks!

Maybe somebody could create an AI that evaluates the factfulness of articles.

This is possible, especially with human in the loop.

Or have the AI generate only fact-based, polite and relevant comments.

I'm not convinced deliberately trying to create an imaginary friend is a good idea. It sounds like deliberately inducing mental illness.

You have a bad understanding of what mental illness is then. Imaginary friend is a coping mechanism not gateway to becoming crazy.

As long as you aware that the friend is imaginary, perhaps. If it gets to real, I'd say it is a mental illness.

Not sure if you can simply create that by willpower/meditation, though. Although it seems very likely that it is possible to deliberately fuck up one's mental health. After all, it is possible to fuck up one's physical health, too.

You can quit your job, though. And you can negotiate with management. The only reason you are a serf is because you choose to be one. (Spare me the "many people can't afford to quit their job" comments - save money, or look for a better job)

Isn't that standard fare for workplaces everywhere in the world now? Not that I like it much, but it seems to be the normal approach.

I work at a company going hard on diversity and inclusion and they haven't gone even a baby step towards asking us to empathize with the grievances of people who feel fascism is the only thing that can help them.

Empathy isn't the same as tolerance, but I'd expect they'd either know the optics would be terrible or don't see the difference themselves.
