A reminder that we might die today is, I think, unhelpful.
An occasional reminder that we might die soon would perhaps prompt us to ensure we don't leave a mess behind. Trying to do stuff to avoid regrets is stupid, you won't feel regrets.
Otherwise we should live without any thought of dying.

The character of a country is mostly defined by those who have power either nationally or locally. The value of democracy is that, if well implemented, those in power reflect proportionately the wishes of the whole nation. Sadly it rarely happens.
