My phone (Teracube) is running /e/OS now for 2 years. Nearly everything works out of the box (bank apps, e-identity apps etc ..). The only issue I have is that the app I use to take contactless payment on the phone via NFC does not work (while it works using Android).

Generally, I am supporting of that move. One thing leaves me non-plussed as a non-USA citizen, "the mass domestic surveillance of Americans" exception. That means that Claude can still be used for mass surveillance of everybody else on the planet right?

Yup. That’s pretty much how they make money. (Edit - in the context of contracting services to US government)

Can confirm, I've put tens of zip ties on a Mars lander, and in other science instruments!

Do you folks still use cable lacing (cord) for deep space missions?

You can see cabling with lacing in many images, for example:

Interesting. These however appear to be tie-downs of (PU-cast?) cable assemblies rather than running lacing. See e.g. p35 and on in https://standards.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/standards/NAS...

Baudolino from Umberto Eco (an excellent book) is partially about that, I recommend the read !

I think an unsung hero in making open source broadly known and adopted in France is Framasoft [https://framasoft.org/en/], a non-profit association. They have since many many years an initiative to de-google internet and provide free and hosted alternatives and resources.

+1 on this, they had an amazing presence in the French community for 20 years and many of us own them our passion for FOSS.

More people on HN seem to know of PeerTube than know of FramaSoft, the group that's building PeerTube

I work at a French research institute and our Zoom contract ends soon so we get to switch to Visio. It's not too bad but quite tier below Zoom. Noise cancellation is not great, being browser based also comes with limitations, in half my meetings people don't manage to find the permissions to allow mic and/or webcam ...

> in half my meetings people don't manage to find the permissions to allow mic and/or webcam

They will learn :-)

Judging by the amount of people who still suck at Zoom or Teams after 6 years ... I am not that sure :)

But then they can suck at Visio all the same, right? :D

After many years of Nova, switched to Olauncher. I'm a happy person.

0.8 Mmol?

0.8 MM

The symbol for molar is just the "M". "mol" denotes the Avogadro constant.

> It might be dumb, but at least it's expensive.

Just realizing that the reverse could be a selling point for a phone here: It might be expensive, but at least it's dumb.

After a long day out that started early, I can tell you that our riot police has no budget issues!
