This is a dangerous attitude.

We don't need mass surveillance for traffic control. It can be done by the police if they really wanted to do it. Truth is, they don't care enough about road safety. This is about surveillance of citizens for control. First step is just infrastructure setup - next step is using it to prosecute those who dare to challenge the rise of fascism.

Be an advocate for your own rights to privacy. Don't simply accept it as normalcy.

Unless you want a police officer on every street corner at all times, no, it cannot be "done by the police".

then it doesn't need to be done in any way.

I prefer people to be held accountable for their actions while driving, actually.

Letting the state control our privacy is a huge price to pay for traffic management. Especially if said state is currently detaining people left and right, and occasionally murdering them

I'm not concerned about "privacy" on public roads. If law enforcement illegally detaining and murdering people is a concern, I'd rather increase accountability for the law enforcement officers engaging in illegal activity, instead of removing their ability to police actual crime.

Just stop. You are trying way too hard to act smart while spouting a bunch of bs that doesn't line up with reality

Thanks for the chuckle. I'm sorry you feel that way

we need more tech literacy overall, so this might help with that also

I applaud France for this decision. Windows is basically legal spyware and adware at this point

Like most Microsoft products, Windows is a tool that benefits mostly from aggressive early marketing and successfully convincing everyone that they need this product, and by the time everyone realizes how terrible the product is it's too late because everything already depends on it.

They have done this everywhere; Microsoft Office is everywhere and terrible. Sharepoint used to be everywhere and is terrible. I know they bought it, but LinkedIn is nearly required everywhere and terrible. Teams seems to be increasingly used everywhere and terrible. And of course Windows is everywhere and terrible.

As far as I can tell, there is not a single thing that Microsoft does not half-ass. They're not a software company, they're a marketing company that sells software.

Now they somehow got the management of large companies to also push to adopt Azure, with an aggressive "no capex" / "you pay for what you use" campaign when everyone knows their offering work terribly and are overpriced.

if Home Depot were to make an exam to pass a certification over their catalog, that would seem ridiculous. But when Microsoft does this, management ppl are happy and feel like they manage when they sign up everyone for AZ900 "certification"

Microsoft saw that users, power users and admins who are from the jobs are not making purchases, so you no longer need to design products for them

imo, you can't really ever fully trust a closed-source system, which is why I advocate for linux distros, even though I'm a mac user myself (for now)

VPN should be properly implemented though as you're able to verify network requests on your own and don't necessarily have to trust apple. Best guarantee is to have a VPN at router level that can't be circumvented by anything (+ a trusted router vendor)

I've been very satisfied since I switched to Bun. It's fast and has a great standard library. The node compat is the cherry on top.

Very happy with Bun too. Personally mostly use Bun compatible dependencies.

That's why specialized agencies exist within the government body: FCC, FDA, etc.

aka leave it to the experts because the majority isn't qualified to make such decisions.

Thanks for sharing Open Snitch

Could've named it Mule and stay with their farm animal theme. Wasted opportunity

Sorry, but this post reeks of ignorance. America a neoliberal state slowly descending into fascism. With this post you have reduced your being to one thing: money - and that is sad. It's sad that humanity's worth has been reduced to wealth and material possessions. Not community building, not world building, but chasing an infinite ceiling. It's truly disheartening to see opinion pieces like this. Stripped off of humanity and reduced to numbers.

You even acknowledge some pitfalls like healthcare sucking. But you fail to connect it to the mass wealth gap and how many millions of people suffer because of this. They are not part of your thoughts, because it's the numbers that matter. And the timing of this post couldn't be any worse either.

I suggest you do some reflecting and soul searching my friend. We don't need more of this kind of thinking.

Wait, people here claim that hybrid is the future? All while Chinese EVs are taking over everywhere?

It’s in every discussion here on EVs. Thread after thread of PHEVs lauded as the “obvious practical choice” despite being already essentially obsolete
