I usually advertise I am a mercenary (team and managers), when you pay me our contract is up. I will do what is best for me, and you will do what is best for you. No hard feelings. No loyalty. No confusions.
I always told my managers to text or email me so I do not have to get out of bed. I will send you my laptop and we good.
I am ... unique in this. I know that most people do not like this situation and would feel betrayed. You cannot have loyalty to corporations, they are there for their interest. You have to follow yours all the time as well.
I have been through enough companies that grow and layoff people to be immune from it. It would impact me, and I feel bad for the people that did get impacted by this. The writing on the wall for me was when Elon took over the company and told everyone to come in over the weekend and print their contributions. That to me signalled ok give me my package. It ended for me there. I know my self worth, and know working more hours per week does not make you a better developer. It does the opposite actually.
One of my initial managers when I started working almost 20 years ago said to me that developers and code is like artists. You cannot just tell someone sit down and write code, or you will get the Walmart paintings. Creativity cannot be turned on, bam write code for me. Make this piece of software.
The point that I am trying to make is that employment should be a transaction. That is why you sign the contract when you get hired. When it is not beneficial to you or the company that contract is terminated. I have no loyalty and always question if this is the best situation for me. Am I learning? How is the work I am doing benefiting me? How is the company benefits helping my family? It is selfish but I think that is the way to look at it, since the company is selfish as well.
They never will. Your company will dump you at any time to hit numbers. You should be willing to do the same. Whether you are at-will or not through law, you’re at-will unfortunately.
I have the same problems and it enraged me. It enraged me to the point where I back flashed the nvidia and blocked all domains to .google.com at the pihole for that mac address. Above that all NAT for DNS and blocking DoH and DoT. I do not need "new firmware" versions as the software I run on nvidia shield is just fine.
I unlock the shield, manually install the apps I want updated and ignore the rest. It has no external internet so meh if its got zero day exploits open.
It allows any nodes to validate the validator, they can call out anyone out by doing their own computation for the transaction. If they find a bad actor the stake that bad actor put is lost and goes towards the "whistle blower" node in their wallet.
It is based (on my reading of it) on the notion that there are many more good actors then bad. I wonder if you can get in a situation where someone spams bad actors and fudges all the transactions.
I think you are removing the act of raising a child which its success in today's world is purely monetary. If you cannot afford to feed yourself how are you going to afford the doctors, diapers, extra room, school, clothes, etc. etc. Strangers are not going to help raise the child, like back in tribe ages where there so many children that everyone in the tribe had a part. The social benefits from government when you have a child are abysmal even in the "good" states in America.
When discussing value of life people usually pick their preferred side. Do homeless people have a value on life? America treats homeless as garbage. What about disabled people?
> f you cannot afford to feed yourself how are you going to afford the doctors, diapers, extra room, school, clothes, etc. etc.
People do this all over the world.
> Strangers are not going to help raise the child, like back in tribe ages where there so many children that everyone in the tribe had a part.
and
> The social benefits from government when you have a child are abysmal even in the "good" states in America.
So why are we not addressing these things? But actually, that is what adoption is all about. True? Stranger raisin your baby?
> When discussing value of life people usually pick their preferred side.
I don't. I do not discuss their value monetarily at all. That is incomprehensible. By the way, I am homeless, and yes, I see both Democrats and Republicans treat me like garbage. They both do not care about life at any point.
Adoption is a colossal failure in America. Tens of thousands of children “age out” and will never, ever be adopted; tens of thousands are adopted for use as house slaves or sex slaves for the abusive “parents”; the entire system is filled with neglect and abuse.
Again, look at this. No one wants to elect people to fix these problems, we just keep on voting in these corporate capitalism politicians and then they tell you to just have an abortion because you cannot afford the high cost of everything and the low wages.
I am not anti-abortion, I just want a society where they are not needed becasue money.
This is by far the best to watch. My wife used to describe "He works for <insert company name> (ecommerce) and makes the systems scale for famous stars flash sales and black friday cyber monday."
Because corporate capitalism and investors expect ever higher returns. So a company that does good at what it does needs to look at new revenue sources to please investors which after a while just does mediocre at everything.
I took working and working hard (overtime, for that bonus, promotion, etc.) overboard and never looked back. I wish I would of taken more time to be social and enjoy life a bit more. Work to live, not live to work.
It is amazing that one of the outcomes of the Russian-Ukraine war is helping de-globalize. I for one welcome more north american (canada, united states and mexico) manufacturing even if it costs more. We need to look at the supply chain stability as a national security effort.
It isn't obvious that deglobalizing is good for national security.
The imposition of sanctions is allowing NATO to counter Russia without firing a shot. A world in which we're able to work out our problems without shooting at one another may be a good one.
Retaining the capacity to decouple is important, but nurturing some level of interdependence may help us to find a way to work together. If we have nothing to lose by going to war, we'll have more wars.
That was one of the arguments for globalization. But what we see is there are only a few big actors, who will remain big actors for centuries if not forever due to their size and nuclear capabilities. One of the three biggest actors showed they are willing to destroy everything despite sanctions, and no doubt will permanently change their supply chain to avoid too much pain in the future. So the ship has sailed, likely forever.
Just like in the corporate world, modern power consolidates. For smaller countries "soft power" from globalization can work because the relationships are extremely lopsided, and likely will well into the future - based on how the pie of vassal or semi-vassal states is divided in the next couple decades.
The extreme end of de-globalization is that nation-states actually have a greater incentive to go to war in order to secure more resources and industrial/economic capacity (including humans!) for themselves, meaning a new age of overt colonialism and zero-sum international relations.
It gives some teeth as a counter punch, but it’s not “working out our differences” in the slightest.
What will come from this is a push for Russia and China to be completely self-dependent. Regardless of upcoming trade, the consequences are loud and clear.
It's also good for the environment. Globalization has allowed an environmental race to the bottom while simultaneously creating an illusion of environmental progress in the developed world. We've just sent all the polluting industries elsewhere.
Exactly, the RCMP has not been guiding the banks to freeze the accounts [0]. RCMP and Banks state accounts for donors will not be frozen [1]. At worst RCMP can advise the banks which makes the decision (source from Federal MP) [2].
The government is also working on a plan where you can appeal your account being frozen.
So the government rushes really hard to give themselves the power to freeze bank accounts, but they don't include a way to appeal your account being frozen until you're not able to use your funds for who knows how long.
